一年之计, 莫如树谷; 十年之计, 莫如树木; 终身之计, 莫如树人.  一树一获者, 谷也; 一树十获者, 木也; 一树百获者, 人也. 我苟种之, 如神用之, 举事如神, 唯王之门. 管仲 Nhất niên chi kế, mạc như thụ cốc; thập niên chi kế, mạc như thụ mộc; chung thân chi kế, mạc như thụ nhân. Nhất thụ nhất hoạch giả, cốc dã; nhất thụ thập hoạch giả, mộc dã; nhất thụ bách hoạch giả, nhân dã. Ngã cẩu chủng chi, như thần dụng chi, cử sự như thần, duy vương chi môn.	For a year's plan, nothing matches planting grains. For ten years' plan, nothing matches planting trees. For a lifelong plan, nothing matches 'planting' men. What one gets out of a year's planting are grains. What returns 10 times the planting are trees. What returns 100 times the 'planting' are men. If I truly plant a seed [of teaching to my pupils], I will be able to use them like spirits. If ruling a country is done in such a fashion, that truly is the way of being the king. For one year plan, nothing is more important than growing rice, for ten years plan, nothing is more important than growing trees, for a whole life plan, nothing is more important than growing man. Rice is planted once and reaped once. Trees are planted once and reaped ten times. People are planted once and reaped one hundred times. I respect it, it is like a god uses it, to exalt things like a god, is a gate for only kings
To plant cereal is the biggest reward in one year, to plant trees is the greatest reward in ten years, to plant people is the most important reward in the whole life of a person. If your plan is for 1 year, plant rice. If your plan is for 10 years, plant trees. If your plan is for 100 years, educate children. You reap what you sow with rice. Trees give you 10 times the investment (as lumber or fruit). Men (the human resource) give you 100 times the investment. Deciding on the education of children gives you control over their thoughts. If you have control over the Zeitgeist, you are the de facto ruler of the nation.
