Since 2004, Atlantic has provided about $12 million in support to Hue Central Hospital to construct a cardiovascular centre, equip it and train the personnel.

The Hue Central Hospital serves more than 20 million people in central Viet Nam, a particularly poor section of the country. In 2003, the hospital was not equipped to perform heart surgery, and anyone requiring such surgery had to travel to Ha Noi or Ho Chi Minh City.

That year, Atlantic provided $12 million to support construction of a cardiovascular centre, equip it and train the personnel.

Since opening in 2007, the Cardiovascular Centre has served more than 57,000 outpatients and over 24,000 inpatients, and has performed more than 6,000 cases of open heart surgeries.

The Cardiovascular Centre at Hue Central Hospital was approved to perform the first heart transplant in Viet Nam, over other large hospitals in major cities like Ha Noi.

The Cardiovascular Centre helped Hue Central Hospital merit recognition by the Ministry of Health as one of the three top-tier hospitals in the country.

Duc can talk 7 hours after the surgery

Wednesday afternoon, doctor Bui Duc Phu, director of the Hue Central Hospital announced that his hospital has successfully carried out a heart transplant surgery for a 26-year-old male.

This is the first heart transplant operation done 100% by Vietnamese doctors in Vietnam.

It is also the second successful heart transplant case in general in the country after the first one at the Military Hospital 103 – which was helped by foreign experts.

The 5-hour-long surgery on Tran Mau Duc of Hue city ended at 3am Wednesday.

By 10am Wednesday, Duc has regained consciousness and can talk.

President Nguyen Minh Triet personally congratulated the doctors.

According to Doctor Phu, this surgery was done with the participation of over 100 doctors and medical employees.

15 doctors were directly involved in the operation.

Vietnamese doctors perform heart transplant

HANOI, March 3 (Xinhua) -- A team of Vietnamese doctors has successfully implemented heart transplant on human beings for the first time, Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday.

The operation lasted for five hours (from 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday to 03:00 a.m. on Wednesday) by nearly 100 doctors (divided into eight teams) at Hue Central Hospital.

The heart receiver, Tran Mau Duc, 26 years old and a native of Hue, recovered full sense after seven hours. Before operation, Duc suffered from heart failure, Grade 4.

According to the report, the applied transplant technique is of the same with the world's model of vital organs transplant, and the operation was done with procedures approved by Vietnamese Ministry of Health.

In 2010, Vietnam Military Medical University successfully conducted a heart transplant operation with support from experts from China's Taiwan's Cheng Hsin hospital.

HA NOI – A human heart transplant was successfully performed by Vietnamese doctors from the Cardiovascular Faculty of the Hue Central Hospital on Wednesday.

"This is the first ever heart transplant to be performed by local doctors without the support of foreign experts," said the hospital's director, Bui Duc Phu.

Patient Tran Mau Duc , a 26-year-old man from Phu Hoi Ward of Hue City, underwent surgery following a year's treatment.

"The patient awoke seven hours after the operation and was able to move and hear," said Phu.

"At present, Mau's health figures are very good," confirmed Phu.

President Nguyen Minh Triet sent flowers to the medical team in recognition of their success.

There were six patients awaiting heart transplants at the hospital, but finding donors was difficult, said Phu said.

Trinh Cong Son road unveiled in Hue Khánh thành đường mang tên Trịnh Công Sơn

Hue central city, Trinh Cong Son’s hometown, decided to unveil a road named after him, Trinh Cong Son road, in a meeting today to honor his contribution to Vietnamese music.

The new road 600m in length extends from Gia Hoi Bridge to Nguyen Binh Khiem street in Phu Cat ward along poetic Huong River.

When he was still alive, Son used to write some masterpieces featuring Hue people and its land.

“We are deeply touched when hearing this news from our friends in Hue,” Trinh Vinh Trinh, the legendary composer’s young sister, said.

Trinh Cong Son road is one of 68 roads which have been unveiled at the meeting.

This year’s April 1 is a day to mark his 10th death anniversary.

Son, who was born in 1939, has been renowned internationally for his romantic music and is widely considered one of the three most salient figures of modern (non-classical) Vietnamese music along with Pham Duy and Van Cao.

Son is also known as a talented painter.

Xin chào anh Đăng,

Xin được giới thiệu tôi tên là Hà Minh Thành. Qua anh Nguyễn Hữu Viện tôi mới được biết anh và trang tin của anh dù tôi làm việc cách chỗ của anh cũng không bao xa. Xin hân hạnh được làm quen với anh.

Hiện tại tôi đang được tăng phái công tác hỗ trợ cho cảnh sát tỉnh Fukushima, chỗ tui đang làm cách nhà máy điện hạt nhân Fukushima 1 khoảng 25 km. Gọi là lên đây hỗ trợ giữ an ninh chứ mấy ngày nay chỉ đi nhặt xác người không thôi. Dân địa phương họ tự động thành lập các đội tự quản, tương trợ lẫn nhau. Giả sử có ai muốn ăn cắp ăn trộm cũng khó. Vấn đề an ninh không lo lắm. Người chết nhiều quá, tụi tôi chỉ còn lấy dấu tay, chụp hình và trùm mền lại rồi giao người đem đi thiêu. Ngày đầu còn mặc niệm, có cảnh sát tăng phái còn khóc nhưng bây giờ thì không còn thời gian để mà mặc niệm và khóc nữa. Hôm qua còn không có chỗ để mà thiêu họ nữa đó anh. Khủng khiếp.

Ký giả của Hoàn Cầu Thời Báo Trung Quốc Vương Hy Văn hôm qua theo tôi một ngày để lấy tin khi đi ngang qua một ngôi nhà bị sập mà tiền giấy có lẽ từ ngôi nhà đó trôi ướt nằm tứ tán cả bãi đất chắc cũng vài chục triệu yen nhưng mà chẳng ai thèm nhặt đã phải thốt lên: "50 năm nữa , kinh tế Trung Quốc chắc chắn sẽ đứng đầu thế giới, nhưng vĩnh viễn Trung Quốc không thể được gọi là cường quốc vì 50 năm nữa người Trung Quốc cũng chưa thể có trình độ dân trí và ý thức đạo đức công dân cao như người Nhật hiện tại. Tôi hổ thẹn mình là con cháu của Khổng Tử nhưng không hiểu cái đạo Nhân Nghĩa làm người bằng họ."

Người Trung Quốc 50 năm nữa không bằng họ còn người Việt mình không biết bao nhiêu năm nữa mới có dân trí như vậy. Mấy ngày nay tôi chứng kiến nhiều câu chuyện cảm động về tình người trong hoạn nạn lắm nhưng có một chuyện khiến tôi cảm động nhất đã khiến một người lớn như tôi từng có bằng Tiến sĩ công học ở Đại học Đông Bắc (Tohoku Dai) cũng phải hổ thẹn về một bài học làm người.

Câu chuyện tối hôm kia tôi được phái tới một trường tiểu học phụ giúp hội tự trị ở đó để phân phát thực phẩm cho các người bị nạn. Trong cái hàng rồng rắn những người xếp hàng tôi chú ý đến một đứa nhỏ chừng 9 tuổi, trên người chỉ có chiếc ao thun và quần đùi. Trời rất lạnh mà nó lại xếp hàng cuối cùng, tôi sợ đến phiên của nó thì chắc chẳng còn thức ăn. Nên mới lại hỏi thăm. Nó kể nó đang học ở trường trong giờ thể dục thì động đất và sóng thần đến, cha của nó làm việc gần đó đã chạy đến trường, từ ban công lầu 3 của trường nó nhìn thấy chiếc xe và cha nó bị nước cuốn trôi, 100% khả năng chắc là chết rồi. Hỏi mẹ nó đâu, nó nói nhà nó nằm ngay bờ biển, mẹ và em của nó chắc cũng không chạy kịp. Thằng nhỏ quay người lau vội dòng nước mắt khi nghe tôi hỏi đến thân nhân. Nhìn thấy nó lạnh run lập cập tôi mới cởi cái áo khoác cảnh sát trùm lên người nó. Vô tình bao lương khô khẩu phần ăn tối của tôi bị rơi ra ngoài, tôi nhặt lên đưa cho nó và nói: "Đợi tới phiên của con chắc hết thức ăn, khẩu phần của chú đó, chú ăn rồi, con ăn đi cho đỡ đói". Thằng bé nhận túi lương khô của tôi, khom người cảm ơn.

Tôi nghĩ bình thường tưởng nó sẽ ăn ngấu nghiến ngay lúc đó nhưng không phải, nó ôm bao lương khô đi thẳng lên chỗ những người đang phát thực phẩm và để bao lương khô vào thùng thực phẩm đang phân phát rồi lại quay lại xếp hàng.Tôi sửng sốt và ngạc nhiên vô cùng, mới hỏi nó tại sao con không ăn mà lại đem bỏ vào đó. Nó trả lời: "Bởi vì còn có nhiều người chắc đói hơn con. Bỏ vào đó để các cô chú phát chung cho công bằng chú ạ".

Tôi nghe xong vội quay mặt đi chỗ khác để khóc để nó và mọi người đang xếp hàng không nhìn thấy. Thật cảm động. Không ngờ một đứa nhỏ 9 tuổi mới học lớp 3 đã có thể dạy một thằng có ăn có học từng có bằng tiến sĩ như tôi một bài học làm người trong lúc khốn khó nhất. Một bài học vô cùng cảm động về sự hy sinh. Tôi nghĩ một dân tộc với những đứa trẻ 9 tuổi đã biết nhẫn nại, chịu gian khổ và chấp nhận hy sinh cho người khác chắc chắn là một dân tộc vĩ đại. Đất nước này giờ đây đang đứng ở trong những giờ phút nguy cấp nhất của sự điêu tàn, nhưng chắc chắn nó sẽ hồi sinh mạnh hơn nhờ những công dân biết hy sinh bản thân ngay từ tuổi niên thiếu.

Lên đây rồi bây giờ tôi mới thấm thía câu nói của vị thiền sư phụ của tôi ở Tokyo trước khi lâm chung dạy lại cho tôi đó là "Nhân sinh nhất mộng, bất luận kiến tâm, Tâm vô sở cầu thị Phật". Cái sự hy sinh vì người một cách vô ngã của đứa nhỏ 9 tuổi khiến tôi ngộ ra được những điều cả cuộc đời bon chen của mình tôi chưa nhận thấy được. Tôi nhường khẩu phần ăn tối của tôi cho thằng bé để nhận của nó một lời cám ơn, còn nó cho đi cả buổi ăn tối của nó một cách vô tư không so đo dù nó đói còn thê thảm hơn tôi nhiều và chắc còn phải đói nhiều trong cả cuộc đời vì không gia đình nữa. Những công án thiền của Bích Nham Lục, Vô môn quan hoàn toàn vô nghĩa so với hành động của một đứa bé 9 tuổi.

Xưa nay tôi không phục lắm người Nhật từ khi còn đi học, làm kỹ sư rồi làm cảnh sát thì phải luôn tiếp xúc với những người Nhật ở mặt trái của xã hội. Nhưng mà hành động của người dân Nhật trong vùng động đất bây giờ đã khiến tôi phục họ thật sự.

Tình hình quanh nhà máy điện hạt nhân vẫn còn an ninh, hiện tại tụi tôi đã được phát sẵn khẩu trang và đồng phục nylon. Ông Kan sáng nay họp báo dự tính đến tình huống xấu nhất là bỏ cả vùng miền Đông. Tôi không phải chuyên ngành về nguyên tử lực như anh nên không hiểu lắm về tác hại của phóng xạ. Nhưng tôi nghĩ cũng đang nguy hiểm. Tụi TEPCO vụ này chủ quan quá. Anh Đăng nếu được nên sắp xếp cho vợ con về VN trước thì tốt nhất. Tôi sợ tới lúc xấu nhất không còn vé máy bay. Tôi thì bà xã người Nhật, con gái cũng mới ra trường y tá và cũng đang hoạt động cứu trợ thiện nguyện ngay tại Fukushima này. Tôi hỏi con gái tôi "Tình hình có vẻ nguy hiểm , con có muốn đi VN lánh nạn không". Nhỏ con gái của tôi trả lời "Đi đâu bây giờ , xung quanh con với cha người ta chết với bị thương hàng hàng lớp lớp. Không lẽ bỏ chạy. Thôi kệ, tới đâu hay tới đó." Tôi gọi điện thoại về hỏi bà vợ tôi tính sao, có cần chạy qua quê chồng trú tạm lánh nạn một mình không thì bà xã tôi nói với tôi rằng người Nhật của họ thì 36 kế của Tôn Tử binh pháp họ chỉ dùng được tới cái kế 35. Cái chước cuối cùng "Tẩu vi thượng sách" không có chỗ dùng vì cái xứ đảo này không có chỗ nào để mà chạy nữa. Cùng lắm chịu chết thôi. Thôi thì tôi thân phận dính líu tới cái tổ quốc thứ hai này rồi. Vợ con gì cũng không chạy không lẽ một mình tôi bỏ nhiệm sở. Già rồi có hít chút phóng xạ vô nữa cũng chẳng sao cả. Mang cái ơn nghĩa với đất nước này cũng nhiều thôi thì bây giờ cùng đến lúc có cơ hội để trả ơn cho họ vậy.

Hy vọng không có gì xảy ra, khoảng 3 tuần nữa có thể trở về Saitama. Hy vọng được gặp anh Đăng nếu anh còn ở Nhật, anh em mình tâm sự nhiều hơn. Tôi năm nay 56 tuổi. Chắc cỡ tuổi của anh.

Free Spirit Spheres (British Columbia, Canada)

Free Spirit Spheres can be hung from the trees as shown, making a tree house. They can also be hung from any other solid objects or placed in cradles on the ground. There are four attachment points on the top of each sphere and another four anchor points on the bottom. Each of the attachment points is strong enough to carry the weight of the entire sphere and contents.

The spheres are made of two laminations of wood strips over laminated wood frames. The outside surface is then finished and covered with a clear fibreglass. The result is a beautiful and very tough skin. The skin is waterproof and strong enough to take the impacts that come with life in a dynamic environment such as the forest.

Cube House (Rotterdam, Netherlands)

Living in a tilted house is much easier than it looks—just ask the people living in these the Kijk-Kubus homes. Architect Piet Blom tipped a conventional house forty-five degrees and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pole so that three sides face down and the other three face the sky. Each of the cube houses accommodates three floors: a living space including a kitchen, study and bathroom, the middle floor houses bedrooms and the top is the pyramid room that can act like an attic or viewing deck. These houses are quite expensive, but you can satisfy your curiosity by visiting the museum show house.

Gangster's House (Archangelsk, Russia)

One-time Russian gangster Nikolai Sutyagin’s home is certainly unusual. The eccentric former convict’s seemingly accidental 15-year project begun in 1992 stands 13 floors, 144 feet high. He claims he was only intending to build a two-story house - larger than those of his neighbours to reflect his position as the city’s richest man.

Mushroom House (Cincinnati, Ohio)

So disparate in materials and shapes this hodgepodge house looks like its been welded and glued together. But this is no hobo-construction, it was designed by the professor of architecture and interior design at the University of Cincinnati, Terry Brown, and was recently on the market for an estimated $400K.

Upside-Down House (Syzmbark, Poland)

This upside down design seems totally nonsensical–but that is exactly the message the Polish philanthropist and designer, Daniel Czapiewski, was trying to send. The unstable and backward construction was built as a social commentary on Poland’s former Communist era. The monument is worth a trip be it for a lesson in history or balance.

Pod House (Rochester, New York)

We assumed this oddball home was UFO-inspired, but it turns out the weed Queen Anne’s lace is where it got it's roots. Its thin stems support pods with interconnecting walkways.

Heliotrope Rotating House (Freiburg, Germany)

Green to the extreme, Architect Rolf Disch built a solar powered home that rotates towards the warm sun in the winter and rotates back toward its well-insulated rear in the summer. A house that spins in circles doesn’t sound too stable to us, but for the environment it is worth the risk.
