Wednesday afternoon, doctor Bui  Duc Phu, director of the Hue Central Hospital announced that his  hospital has successfully carried out a heart transplant surgery for a  26-year-old male.
 This is the first heart transplant operation done 100% by Vietnamese doctors in Vietnam.
 It is also the second successful heart transplant case in general in  the country after the first one at the Military Hospital 103 – which was  helped by foreign experts.
 The 5-hour-long surgery on Tran Mau Duc of Hue city ended at 3am Wednesday.
 By 10am Wednesday, Duc has regained consciousness and can talk.
 
President Nguyen Minh Triet personally congratulated the doctors.
 According to Doctor Phu, this surgery was done with the participation of over 100 doctors and medical employees.
 15 doctors were directly involved in the operation.
Vietnamese doctors perform heart transplant
HANOI, March 3  (Xinhua) -- A team of Vietnamese doctors has successfully implemented  heart transplant on human beings for the first time, Vietnam News Agency  reported Thursday. 
The operation lasted  for five hours (from 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday to 03:00 a.m. on Wednesday)  by nearly 100 doctors (divided into eight teams) at Hue Central  Hospital. 
The heart receiver, Tran Mau  Duc, 26 years old and a native of Hue, recovered full sense after seven  hours. Before operation, Duc suffered from heart failure, Grade 4. 
According  to the report, the applied transplant technique is of the same with the  world's model of vital organs transplant, and the operation was done  with procedures approved by Vietnamese Ministry of Health. 
In  2010, Vietnam Military Medical University successfully conducted a  heart transplant operation with support from experts from China's  Taiwan's Cheng Hsin hospital.

Original Source    HA  NOI – A human heart transplant was successfully performed by   Vietnamese doctors from the Cardiovascular Faculty of the Hue Central  Hospital  on Wednesday.
 "This is the first ever heart transplant to be  performed by local  doctors without the support of foreign experts,"  said the hospital's director,  Bui Duc Phu.
 Patient Tran Mau Duc , a 26-year-old man from Phu Hoi Ward of Hue  City, underwent surgery following a year's treatment.
 "The patient awoke seven hours after the operation and was able  to move and hear," said Phu.
 "At present, Mau's health figures are very good," confirmed  Phu.
 President Nguyen Minh Triet sent flowers to the medical team in  recognition of their success.
 There were six patients awaiting heart transplants at the  hospital, but finding donors was difficult, said Phu said.
 Viet Nam's first heart transplant was carried out at  the Military  Medical Institute 103 with the support of Taiwanese  experts in March 2010. – VNS
